Schools play an important role in our children's health, education and overall well-being. With students often consuming up to 50% of their daily calories at school, this makes the nutrition value of schools meals very important. Our children are at school the majority of the day, which allows schools to also be the beneficial in providing the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity children should be receiving each day.
Better Health Makes for Better Students:
- Nutrition is important for cognitive and brain development
- Nutrition improve student behavior and lowers absenteeism
- Physical education strengthens test scores
- Physical activity positively affects concentration, memory, and classroom behavior
- Students who are overweight or obese are often ridiculed and teased, which can lead to depression, isolation, poor body image, and lack of self esteem; all contributing to lower academic performance.
